Hello, well …. after that whole salmonella scare I’ve decided to grow my own tomatoes in my closet, how would I cover up the smell of the soil and and the plants them selves? I don’t want people thinking i’m doing something unsavory ….
I neglected to mention that I would be using a compact fluorescent grow light and hydroponic system for the water. I don’t want to grow outside because I live on the bottom level of an apartment complex and the kids and animals outside would surely turn them to rubbish rather quickly …

I wouldn’t worry about it. If you try to grow anything in a closet
it won’t grow Tomatoes need sunlight and warmth and
water to grow. Hiding them away in a closet will not work. This
goes for any thing you try to grow.
Grow some marijuana. Once it buds, no one will smell the tomatoes!
they need sunshine to grow, so put them outside.
put them outside
Get one of those odor absorbers from the store. Then put 10 of them all around your closet and replace every few weeks to cover up the smell of your, um, tomatoes…
LOL
Tomatoes need sunlight to grow. It is not illegal to grow your own tomatoes. They can be grown in pot on your deck or windowsill. They need good dirt, sunshine, water and air circulation.
I’m sure its tomatoes . . . . right.
You need to buy a good hydroponic system and some nice grow lights. Once your “tomatoes” bud, it will be time to harvest and share with your friends.
Try to limit access to the closet, first. Keep in mind that you’ll need some kind of air circulation, so running a fan or some other type of ventilation system could be an option. If your closet is near a bathroom with a vent fan, you could try connecting a duct from the bathroom to the closet and running the vent fan. In any case, you will need some type of air circulation here.
You can always burn candles and incense in the house, too, to mask the smell of your indoor tomato garden. Be sure to have the proper lighting, as well. Plain fluorescents probably won’t get the job done.
Enjoy your savory, salmonella free, tomatoes.
Good for you! It’s cool that you’ve decided to take on a new venture in gardening
I don’t know why you’d want to cover the smell, but have you got a sunny window in your room? If so, why not try growing a couple fragrant herbs in the window to help? Basil and Oregano go well the tomatoes cooked, and are easy to grow, so they’d be a good choice.
